The Business:

N is for Nursery are a trailblazing nursery based in London. Since launching in 2017, N is for Nursery have achieved considerable growth and are looking to become an industry leader across London.

Each of the business’s spaces are built from scratch, enabling them to purpose build inspirational learning environments filled with passionate educators. A leading nursery during the week and neighbourhood club for all the family at the weekend, the business looks to create an uplifting, one-of-a-kind experience.

We had previously worked with N is for Nursery, successfully finding them an outstanding Head of Learning. As a result of this excellent previous experience, they were happy to work with us again to headhunt for a new Construction Director who could take them from strength to strength.

The Challenge:

The most prominent challenge we faced during the course of this headhunt was identifying ideal candidates within our client’s sector.

As it’s uncommon for nursery providers to have in-house construction teams, there were very few candidates within the sector that matched our client’s requirements. As such, we needed to conduct a cross-industry search to find candidates with the right experience.

Our Solution:

In response to this challenge, we set out to conduct a detailed headhunt across multiple sectors in which we believed the best candidates could be found.

First, we took the time to identify which businesses and sectors had strong parallels with the experience our client was looking for.

As a result of this research, we then targeted businesses such as retailers, vets, and dentist chains, as these were businesses where it’s common practice to have multi-site refits and new builds with similar specifications and aesthetics across each branch. This ability to create recognisable branding made these type of businesses the perfect place to look.

Identifying the Candidate:

In order to find candidates with the most relevant skills and experience, we targeted candidates working in project management roles within dedicated construction companies. We also searched for candidates working within in-house construction departments in retail and hospitality, as well as related sectors.

Simply Bringing the Right People Together:

We produced a strong shortlist of 3 high-quality candidates, each of whom we believed to be perfect for our client’s opportunity in their own way. Each candidate brought a different set of skills and backgrounds to the table, giving our client a good choice in their selection. N is for Nursery were impressed with each of these candidates and decided to appoint one as their Construction Director. This stand-out candidate had excellent experience working for a multi-national retailer and had strong experience managing multiple fit out projects. In addition, the candidate fit our client’s company culture perfectly, which was a vital requirement of the role. N is for Nursery were delighted to have found their ideal candidate through our headhunt.
