Engineering Manager Headhunters

The Business:

Established just under 30 years ago and part of the Haden Freeman Group, Haden Freeman Ltd is one of the UK’s leading independent engineering and consultancy companies.

The business has an unrivalled reputation and holds partnerships with a selection of industry leading giants including Siemens WH Goode, WT Parker and HG Systems. They also boast a relaxed culture and low staff turnover.

The Challenge:

Haden Freeman were in need of an Engineering Manager to lead the E&I engineering resources ensuring that they provide a technically competent, timely and cost effective service that meets the requirements of their project managers and engineering personnel.

The main purpose of this role was to provide a good quality engineering service to project managers in a way that met their needs as cost-effectively as possible.

We also had the task of finding an individual who could manage up to 30 projects a year, provide up to 15 direct reports to the company Director and manage approximately 10 project managers and engineers on a day-to-day basis.

Our Candidate:

As is the case with the majority of senior roles we headhunt for, the client indicated that the candidate required relevant experience and qualifications in order to be successful in landing the role.

They would have to balance the resources available to them with varying project needs which could bring them in to conflict with project managers whom might feel their needs are not being met as well as they would like. Therefore, good organisational, interpersonal and negotiating skills would be imperative to being effective in this situation.

Haden Freeman also expressed the importance of the candidate being a technical expert in order to be able to interrogate project briefs and, if possible, find alternative, more effective solutions for their clients.

Our Solution:

The successful candidate had multidisciplinary engineering management and leadership experience. They’d been responsible for ensuring technical quality through best practice engineering skills, systems, and staff and had experience of all project phases from concept design to commissioning and operations support across a range of broad sectors.

These factors combined with a strong track record of implementing reporting tools and leading process engineering departments made this candidate perfect for the role.

The senior management at Haden Freeman were also impressed with this individual’s knowledge of the company and enjoyment of conducting the duties entailed in the Engineering Manager role, previously.
