The Business:Crown Agents are a not-for-profit business which empowers leaders to accelerate self-sufficiency and prosperity for their communities, businesses, institutions and countries.
Established in 1833, their heritage is hugely varied. They predominantly manage large programmes and projects to accelerate self-sufficiency and prosperity around the world.
They work with NGOs, donors and governments, on a variety of projects such as successfully delivering life-saving drugs across 80% of South Sudan, securing 40% savings on Ukraine’s health procurement budget, or getting 4,000 aid consignments into Syria since the conflict began in the most transparent and accountable way.
The Challenge:Our client required a new Head of Inspections due to the departure of the incumbent. Given the importance of the role, they felt headhunting was the best solution.
The biggest barrier we needed to overcome in recruiting for this role was attracting commercial sector candidates to a not-for-profit sector role. As Crown Agents are effectively a charity, the salary on offer was a challenge as it was lower than those typically paid by their commercial competitors.
As such, we ensured there was a major focus on the opportunity itself and making a real difference to people's lives.
Our Solution:Our search initially focused on pharmaceutical and food inspection businesses which aligned with the client's sector.
However, we also expanded this search to a much broader range of sectors where border and custom inspections were relevant to ensure the right quality products were being exported and imported.
