The early phase for any new executive, leader or manager is critical to their long-term success. Multiple studies suggest that a significant proportion of leadership transitions fail in the first 18–24 months, with organisational culture and politics often cited as amongst the leading reasons. 

For the individual, it can feel lonely and high-pressure. For the organisation, a failed hire is costly, disruptive, and damaging to success and momentum.  

Our Executive Onboarding – Landing with Impact – is designed to dramatically increase the chances of success for your new senior appointment or promotion. You may have found someone that should be perfect for you, the role and the organisation. But we know that even that isn’t always enough.  

Landing with Impact, combining our leading coaching and training, supports your executive to get up to speed faster, build strong relationships, and begin delivering meaningful impact in their first months. 

Our Landing with Impact approach 

Our Executive Onboarding service has been specifically researched, designed and developed to ensure the long-term success of a senior appointment and is included as standard within our Executive Search service. 

We combine expert board-level advice, executive coaching, and leadership consultancy in a structured, three-phase approach: 

  1. On-boarding – understanding the brief and the landscape

Before (or just as) your new executive joins, we: 

  • Meet with key organisational stakeholders to understand the mandate, expectations, and priorities for the role. 
  • Clarify success measures, what should their early “quick wins” be, and any key risks or sensitivities. 
  • Agree how the onboarding support will complement your internal induction. 
  1. Integration – building relationships and momentum

Once in post, we provide a structured programme of support over the first six months, typically including: 

  • An initial deep-dive session with the executive to align on goals, expectations, and the outputs of the programme. 
  • A psychometric profile of the individual and, where appropriate, 360° input from up to five stakeholders to identify potential pinch points before they occur. 
  • 6–8 one-to-one on-boarding  sessions over the first six months, flexing between coaching, mentoring, training and advisory support depending on the needs of the role and the individual. 
  • A live onboarding plan focused on understanding your people, processes, and customers, and on creating early credibility and impact. 
  1. Acceleration – driving sustained impact and change

As the executive settles into the role, we shift the focus towards: 

  • Owning leadership: consolidating their leadership identity and building a positive early reputation with key stakeholders. 
  • Supporting change and transformation initiatives – from assessing the current state through to defining priorities, implementation plans, and success measures. 
  • A final review session to evaluate progress, reflect on learning, and agree the next strategic steps. 

Throughout the programme we act as a trusted advisor and ‘critical friend’, providing appropriate challenge and confidential support to help the executive think clearly, sense-check plans, and navigate complexity. 

What’s included 

Every programme is bespoke, but a typical Landing with Impact onboarding will include: 

  • Key stakeholder briefing and role mandate clarification 
  • An initial goal-setting and onboarding design session with the executive 
  • Individual psychometric profile (with optional stakeholder 360 data) 
  • 6–8 one-to-one onboarding sessions over the first six months 
  • Unlimited text and email support between sessions 
  • Support with stakeholder mapping, prioritisation, and early “quick win” planning 
  • Structured reflection on leadership style, impact, and learning over time 
  • A final review and forward-looking plan (typically aligned to 6–12 month objectives)
