The Business:

Alpha Specialist Roofing was established three years ago as a side venture to Minerva Building Restoration which is a successful £4M turnover business that does internal & external refurbishment and restoration of grade listed buildings, mansion blocks, historic buildings and more.

The decision was made to set up a specialist roofing business to supplement the full service that Minerva could offer to clients, rather than outsourcing roofing work.

Alpha undertake commercial and industrial roofing projects of all sizes, ranging from remedial repair works to major refurbishment projects and they are fast becoming specialists in the application of liquid roofing systems.

The Challenge:

Alpha was a successful, profitable business with a good portfolio and huge growth potential with numerous untouched markets ready to expand in to.

The owner was looking to bring on board a very strong, capable individual with a wealth of roofing expertise to head up and take full responsibility for Alpha so they could take full control of Minerva.

They needed a new Director to take the business from strength to strength, add value and increase profit whilst leading from the front – straight from the off.

Our Candidate:

A wealth of experience in the roofing sector was of paramount importance for a candidate to be successful in this headhunt.

This would be a client facing role so developing new business, leading by example and being able to price up roofing work for new contracts was required.

The individual would also have to ensure that the delivery of the work was on schedule and completed to the highest standard. Ideally this person would have a good subcontractor database of their own that they could tap into for the completion of large projects if necessary.

Our Solution:

We found an ambitious person with over 25 years’ multi-disciplined experience of the building trade including roofing.

They also had a reputation as a proactive professional who was able to communicate at all levels, plus, they’d built up a comprehensive personal network of their own.

This individual was a Senior Contract Manager at the time but was chomping at the bit to progress their career even further and their ambition, combined with more than enough experience, made them the perfect candidate for Alpha.

Knowing the Client:

The owner indicated this role would suit someone who wanted to either step up to Director level and/or someone who wanted to run their own business but did not have the capital to get it off the ground.With this in mind we identified the successful candidate as fitting the mould in both instances and delivered exactly what our client was looking for.

Identifying the Candidate:

For this particular headhunt, we focused our attentions to the top performing Senior Contract Managers who’d worked in the building sector with an emphasis on roofing.By using our existing networks and extensive research resources to contact people others can’t, we were able to pin point the best candidate for Alpha.

Simply Bringing the Right People Together:

In a nutshell, this is what we do. We identified a number of suitable candidates who fit both the role and the requirements of the organisation as a whole.It was very rewarding for both the client and ourselves, that they found their ideal candidate within our shortlist and the headhunt was a success.Although this person wasn’t actively looking for a new role at the time but, after our approach, they were interested to hear about Alpha’s opportunity and, as a result, decided to make the move.
